Neches River Rendezvous
June 4, 2005
DETARC members and other area Amateur Operators will again support this event for 2005. It is lot of fun and a great way to test equipment and operating capabilities. This is one event that Amateur Communications is truly depended upon. Here are some particulars for 2005:
From Mike Miles-WD5EFY - Event Coordinator
QST, QST !
The Neches River Rendezvous 2005 is getting closer. It is set for June 4th, 2005.
This year we will need a minimum of 17 operators...and that is not counting some extras for relief. The more the better !
So far I have several that have committed and some that are maybes. I would like to get confirmations on everyone as soon as possible.
Tee shirt sizes and numbers must be in by the end of this coming week.
So far I have listed to help (and forgive me if I left someone out that has already volunteered - please let me know if you're not listed) :
KD5THP N5GCU KD5WIC KE5CVY KD5FEE
WD5EFY KD5SHM NE5AH KE5ADC KD5UAD
K5NAC WM6V W5QVK W5IOU KE5CKM
N5AIU KD5UVO AC5Z KD5WX Jim Conner
Kathy Conner
Please let me know a definite yes or no and your preferred Tee shirt size.
Also please let me know what equipment you plan to bring. We need a variety of equipment, as those who have participated before know.
This year we will need a total of eleven mobile radios (seven with cig. lighter plug), ten 2m mag mount antennas, five HT's with spare batteries, three roll-up J-pole antennas, four large batteries, and eight complete APRS rigs (to include GPS, encoder, transmitter, battery, and mag mount antenna - all separate from the voice rigs).
Also be considering operating positions if you have a preference. The operating needs are:
1 operator at the river put-in.
1 operator at the take-out point.
1 operator at each of 3 check points on the bank of the river.
1 operator in each of 7 vans carrying people to the put-in.
1 operator in each of 3 EMS boats on the river.
2 operators as net control.
This event is shaping up to set some records in people on the river so the day may go a little longer and it would be helpful to have relief operators to give some folks a break during the day.
Also, the NRR committee is inviting all the Texas elected officials this year. This "could" result in the need for another operator or two. If the Governor decides to come, there may be a special envoy with him that may need a communications person back to the net control.
Again, thanks for your help in past years and this year! This can not be done without committed operators !
73,
Mike - WD5EFY
