Nets

SKYWARN Severe Weather Nets occur on the DCARA linked repeater systems as required and requested by the National Weather Service.  The SKYWARN Coordinators for Delaware County decide whether to call such a Severe Weather Net into service.  If a SKYWARN Severe Weather Net is required or requested, the DCARA 2 M, 1-1/4 M and 3/4 M FM voice repeaters become operational with a SKYWARN Net Control Station.

Occasionally, you may hear weather related announcements over the DCARA linked repeater system.  These announcements don't always mean that a SKYWARN Severe Weather Net is active.  The DCARA repeater control operators can place periodic announcements on the linked repeater system to alert the members of the DCARA and others in our coverage area of possible weather-related hazards.

The DCARA repeater system in Darby PA forms a key link in the support of emergency communication in Delaware County.  With Amateur Radio links to the Temple University Amateur Radio Club K3TU linked repeater system in North Philadelphia and the Mid Atlantic Amateur Radio Club WB3JOE linked repeater systems at Bryn Mawr Hospital and Paoli Hospital, the DCARA can blanket a tri-county area.

The DCARA repeater system is also the choice for emergency communications for exercises and events at the nearby refinery and airport complexes.
