Text Box: DC-ARES Monday Night Net held each Monday evening at 8 p.m. local time on the HARC repeater at 145.190 negative offset, 114.8 PL tone. This is a great time to test your equipment and find out what’s going on in ARES.

 Public Service Events from 2013:

Run Like a Fox - 5/4/13 A 5K or 10K run sponsored by the Perry Parks and Rec Department. Held in honor of Leon Fox, former biology teacher and coach from Perry High School. Participation will be from 7:30 a.m. to approximately 11 a.m. A hand-held radio will be sufficient to work this event.

Market to Market - 5/11/13 A 75 mile, team running event that begins in Jefferson and will finish in Des Moines. The course will be along the Raccoon Valley River Trail system. DC-ARES will be assisting Polk County ARES in this event. It will be an all-day event but plans are still being made on how we will support the participants. Due to the length of the course, radio operators will want to use higher powered mobile radios or at least an HT with a high-gained antenna. Also, the event will be using both VHF and UHF frequencies.

Hiawatha Classic Bike Ride - 5/18/13 A multi-course, 50+ mile bike ride that runs through Dallas and Guthrie counties and is sponsored by the Perry Parks and Rec Department. Much of this event will be on the RRVT system. Radio operator support will begin at 9:30 a.m. until approximately 3 p.m. Use of mobile equipment or an HT with a gained antenna will be required due to the length of the course.

Miller Run, Walk or Roll –6/29/13 Held in honor of Dr. Miller, a former dentist from Perry, this event runs through the city of Perry along some of the more scenic parts of town. Radio operators can expect to assist from 7:30 a.m. to approximately 11 a.m. A hand held radio will be sufficient to work this event.

RAGBRAI - The city of Perry has asked for our participation in this annual event which will overnight in Perry on July 23rd. Radio operations will run from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. and we will work in shifts. Plans are still being made regarding our exact role to support this event and more information will be forth coming when available. **Transportation throughout the city of Perry will be tricky as nearly 25,000 participants are expected for this event. Plan to arrive early and be prepared for delays.

Perry Triathlon - 8/3/13 Sponsored by the Perry Parks and Rec Department, this event will test athlete’s physical abilities. Specific times and equipment needs will be available at a time closer to the event.

Leap Frog Half-marathon - 8/24/13 Sponsored by the Dallas Center Fun Days committee, this is a 13 mile run/bike event with 2-person teams. Radio operations will start at 6:30 a.m. and run until 10 a.m. An HT with a high-gained antenna will be required for this event.
