TH-F7E / TH-F6A

Introduction

I own a Kenwood Th-F7E since Mai 2004. It's virtually the same HT as the TH-F6A besides mine lacks the 220MHz band. It's a nice little duoband HT with extended TX and a wideband scanner/receiver. The TX extension allows the use as an emergency backup marine radio although the antenna should be changed to a marine band SMA antenna (and I'm still looking for one). On the other hand, I like the ability to listen to marine VHF weather on deck, so i don't have to sit inside while sailing.

Digital

The TH-F7E supports 9k6 packet radio out of the box. Even better, with most computers, you can get QRV in PR fast using the built in sound card. The connection cable can be built easily on your own for a few $ / €. There is no need to adjust the input and output levels. Evereything can be "tuned" with windows' soundcard controls.

I use Paxon with Flexnet32 and the soundmodem extension. A german introduction by Eckart K. W. Moltrecht ( DJ4UF) can be found here.

I'll add a brief introduction how to get QRV with this setup soon.
