34/94

At last. The new controller is in and working. Ken, W9XM and Ed, N9MW, took care of it.

Ken has found an irregularity in the receiver and is working on it.

The autopatch is up and working OK. It is an open patch!

The code to bring it up is *1

The code to drop it is #1

If there is no mobile transmitter activity; at 30 seconds you will hear some beeps and at 45 seconds it will drop everything and hang up the patch. This in case something gets hung up and permits automatic disabling. The way to beat it is punch the PTT on your mic to reset.

Toll is disabled via the telephone company and the #'s 1 and 0, for first number dialed, are also disabled.

The patch can dial any number that can be called from Middleton. It is a Midplains telephone. Sorry, but that is the territory that the machine is in. However, it does mean that you have all of Middleton and Madison. Also available is 911 and any other non-emergency police/fire/sheriff or weather number. So, things seem to coming back together again.

Also, note that the repeater ID's as WR9ABE/M. It was intended that this be /MSN but the controller only handles 8 places (commercial repeaters don't have as long a call sign as the hams use) and is truncating it.

A big thanks to Ed, N9MW, for all of the past 18 months! It has been a bit of a headache. He has provided many hours of effort baby sitting this controller problem. There has been grounding, re-grounding, refurbishing grounds, running new wire, installing new protectors, cleaning the building and untold hours on the telephone trying to get some movement out of the old vendor. Thank you!

28/88

I wish that we could say that the noise is gone, but it isn't. I guess the tower still needs more "seasoning". We need those lightning hits I guess.

Other wise, all is well. The links are back up!

The tower guy was up there on 2/26/99 and installed a fresh, new link antenna. As best as I can tell, it is working. Tis really nice to have it back in service again.

Annual Meeting

- Swiss Steak, Ham and Baked Honey Glazed Chicken.

-Two different potatoes.

- Fresh Garden Salad

- Mixed Vegetables

- Homemade Rolls

- Coffee, Tea, Milk

The cost is $13.95 for the dinner plus an additional $1 per head for Vegie and Cheese trays at the bar until dinner. On top of this is the 15% gratuity and 5.5 % tax. All together the cost is $18.00 per person.

A guest speaker is Nels Harvey, WA9JOB, who is the past president of W.A.R. and the current VP of The Midwest Repeater Council.

We have the place all to ourselves! This is a country club and as such, not much happens before the golf course opens. There is a generous supply of large, round tables and plenty of chairs. There will be plenty of opportunity to comfortably sit around and visit without competing with the normal customer level of crowding or noise.

We need to let them have some sort of head count as early as possible. Please let us know. Send E-Mail to me (NG9V) at [email protected]

or to

Bill Klinkner (N9KXX) at [email protected]

Or send US Mail to the post office box.

The money will be collected at the meeting and the County Club will bill CWRA a couple of days following.

- NOTE -

Page three of the newsletter is a map (provided by WB9BPS) of how to get to the Annual Meeting.

Please find attached, your membership card for 1999. For a few of you, this is the second one. I messed up the date on your first one. Sorry.

For those on the Internet. There is a CWRA Web Page thanks to Jim, N9KAN. The address is: http://www.qsl.net/cwra

The site is growing with items being listed as Jim gets to them.

Another web site that you might be interested in is that of W.A.R. The Wisconsin Association of Repeaters.

You can get a list of all repeaters in the State of Wisconsin; sorted by city or by frequency.

The web site is kept current. You can download as a file or print the listing. You can't filter anything. Just get the whole list.

The address is http://gmtcom.com/war

As an additional item. I am going to try to get some maps made of the 88 and 94 coverage area. They will be at the Annual Meeting. Also at the meeting will be a current membership list (as of that afternoon before 5:00pm). In the future, I plan to get this list into Jim's hands so that he can keep it on the web site.

Correspondence should be sent to the post office box in Madison; but it can also be sent to me via e-mail. My present address is - [email protected]

I might be changing that; but if I do, it will be published on the Web Site.

If you have something really urgent, call me at 608-221-2022.

Last, thanks to Wayne Jorgensen (K9WAJ) of Jorgensen Technologies, Inc. for supplying the paper and printing for both of the newsletters this year.
