The Tourist Board of Dao Lafoes Region is named after the occupation of two different wine-producing areas: the Dao region famous for its full-bodied wines and the Lafoes region where the wine has similar characteristics of the well-known "vinho verde". (Produced in Minho - province in the North of the country). History, archaelogical monuments, magnificent stately homes, ancient spas complete the characteristics mosaic of the Region. Located in the heart of Portugal, it is limited by the following Tourist Regions: the Centre of the country in the South, Douro Sul in the North, Rota da Luz in the West and Serra da Estrela in the East. Situated between the sea and the Spanish Border, this region is easy of access through I . P 3 and 1. P 5, excellent main roads which lead to all directions.

The whole Region is an area of wonderful scenery. However some places deserve a special attention, such is the delight emanating from them.

Caramulinho (Tondela) -1.074 metres high. This is the higest point of Serra do Caramulo. From there you can see the mountains of Lousa (South-west), Estrela (South-east) and Montemuro (North).

Cabeço da Neve (Tondela) - 970 metres high. Situated in the same mountain and opposite to the above-mentioned place, it gives you the opportunity of gazing at the mountains of Lapa (North), Estrela (South-east) and the amazing valley of Campo de Besteiros where the sight streches up into the sky. Small villages can be seen among vineyards and areas of arable land.

Botanical Reservation of Rhododendrons (Vouzela) This is situated just 1 Km from Cambarinho, a village between Caramulo and Vouzela. At the end of May, in this place, you can admire the most beautiful shrub - the rhododendron - in full blossom with its purplish colour. It is a won- der for the lovers of living Nature. CARAMULINO Uma paisagem deslumbrante Nossa Senhora do Castelo (Vouzela) 560 metres high. At the top of Monte do Castelo stands the Church of Our Lady with the same name. Nearby are the remains of a pre-roman settlement. From there you can admire the wondenful scenery of Lafoes region with the River Vouga meandering in the valley towards Aveiro.
The mountains of Caramulo and Talhadas complete the natura scenery. In the distance you can still catch sight of the mounlains of Estrela and Montemuro.

S. Macario (S. Pedro do Sul) - 1.053 metres high. Situated in Serra da Arada, to the north of S. Pedro do Sul. this place of amazing scenery stretches through the mountainous com- plex of Montemuro and, in sunny days, as far as the Coast of Ave ro The aldeia da Pena (Pena village), maintaining its houses with schist walls and slate-covered roofs without any signs of iron or cement is a hymn to tradition and past technology.

Portas de Montemuro (Castro Daire) - 1 053 metres high Located in Serra de Montemuro, the highest point is Talegre It is a place of compulsory passage for the tourist who enters our re- gion via Cinfaes. There some proto-historic peoples must have lived and prob- ably they must have built a defensive wall from which there ara still some vestiges. The chapel of Nosso Senhor das Portas is a 1 8th century building surrounded by a wall which protects it from the strong winds. From there you can admire the magnificent scenery which stretches as far as the river Douro, Serra da Estrela and Serra do Caramulo.
