Operating in CT

If you are a temporary visitor and an amateur operator who comes from a non-CEPT member country or one which has not implemented the CEPT Recommendation T/R 61-01, you must contact the licensing authority here in Portugal – I.C.P. (Instituto das Comunicações de Portugal). They can issue you with a temporary reciprocal licence after some light paperwork and a small fee.

C.E.P.T.
If you are a temporary visitor and an amateur operator who comes from a CEPT member country or a country which has implemented the CEPT Recommendation, you should already possess a CEPT equivalent licence. This will let you bypass the paperwork and cost of getting a temporary licence.

You should be aware that you must comply with the terms of your home licence, unless this results in a breach of the requirements of the Portuguese licence conditions, a copy of which can be found on-line at the ICP web site.

For example: You may already be allocated  30 metres automatically back home. However the 10.1 to 10.15 MHz band is allocated on a secondary basis, to hams in Portugal. Our frequency schedule makes reference to a note (a) – at the end of the frequency list.

This note (a) reads:

Frequency bands attributed to the amateur service… …which will be authorised for use by amateurs on a case by case basis by the I.C.P.

This means you must specifically request permission from the I.C.P. to operate on 30 metres. Other bands like this are 6 mtrs and 23cm and part of 17 mtrs.

As a temporary visitor you may only operate a mobile or a portable station. Use the prefix CT/ (Portugal) or CU/ (Azores) and suffix /M or /P.
