CLIMATE
Mainland Portugal has a pleasant climate with long
hot summers and mild winters. In the north winters are cool and wet; heading further south
temperatures increase and rainfall decreases all the way down to the Algarve where it
rarely falls below freezing. Further inland, a more Continental climate prevails with
summers hotter and winters colder than coastal regions. Madeira is rainy in the north,
warmer and drier in the south, and the Azores are mild with year-round rainfall and strong
winds.
