Amateur radio is a non-commercial radio service, operated by private persons for their own instruction and further training, with worldwide intercommunication On the global scale amateur radio is pursued by more than 2,5 million radio amateurs. The Ham community is maybe one of the few places when we can find so many people who come from all social strata, different cultures and ages sharing their experiments and communication with like-minded enthusiasts.

Even though amateur radio has lost its pioneering role of the first half of the twentieth century, it has by no means become unimportant.

In certain cases, however, amateur radio proves capable of pioneering feats now as before. On March 5, 1965 the first active satellite for amateur radio, the famous OSCAR-1 was put into operation. The first commercial satellite "Early Bird" was only to follow one month later.

Just as a matter of curiosity this is a small list of "most noted" amateur radio, as a proof of the text above.

The Radio Amateur is:

CONSIDERATE…never knowingly operates in such a way as to lessen the pleasure of others.

LOYAL…offers loyalty, encouragement, and support to other amateurs, local clubs, and the National Radio Association, through which Amateur Radio is represented nationally and internationally.

PROGRESSIVE…with knowledge abreast of science, a well-built and efficient station and operation above reproach.

FRIENDLY…slow and patient operating when request; friendly advice and counsel to the beginner; kindly assistance, cooperation and consideration for the interests of others. These are the hallmarkers of the amateur spirit.

BALANCED…radio is an avocation, never interfering with duties owed to family, job, school, or community.

PATRIOTIC…station and skill always ready for service to country and community.

The Amateur Radio Code was created in 1928
