Hello! Thanks for connecting to my first attempt at doing a web page! So, please excuse my novice approach! I'll try to do better as I learn. My reason's for doing this page are:
[1] To provide a "mirror" site for the
CHARLOTTE AREA SKYWARN WEB SITE
.
I plan
to "mirror" selected pages from that site with the links below.
[2] To provide a fast loading, less
graphic-intensive, non Java based SKYWARN
and
SEVERE WEATHER products and
features web site. So, I hope you
will
come
back often to see what's new!
[3] To provide a site for my other "endeavors" such as APRS
{Automatic Positioning
Reporting System}, the PIEDMONT
EMERGENCY TRAINING NET, and the
NC
ARES Emergency and Disaster Communications System.
I live in the foothills of Western North Carolina. I have been a licensed Amateur Radio Operator since 1973. Amateur Radio {ham radio} continues to be one of the best hobbies that I have ever experienced! There's always something new going on! One thing I tell other people, when they ask me about what keeps my interest in ham radio is, "there's always something new or different to do. If you get tired of a certain aspect of this hobby, there's always a hundred other things to do!" That's the beauty of ham radio! If you're interested in becoming a ham radio operator, use this link for more info: WWW.ARRL.ORG !
I have always been involved in the Emergency and Public Service Communications aspect of ham radio {except for when I was a novice licensee}. To me, that is THE PRIMARY motivator for ham radio and one of the primary reasons for it's existence! During my ham radio "career", I have been an Net Manager for a statewide National Traffic System Net, an Emergency Coordinator {EC} for 3 western NC counties, and the past District Emergency Coordinator {DEC} for a part of the western foothills and southern piedmont of NC! I am one of the co-founders of the Piedmont Emergency Training Net , which began in 1980 as the Four County ARES Net. This net's mission is to train any interested hams in basic and advanced ARES and SKYWARN procedures, NTS procedures, and other aspects of Amateur Radio Public Service activities and communications. I am currently the Net Manager for the PETN. A position that I have held since 1985.
My past and continued enjoyment in ham radio has been my intensive involvement in the SKYWARN program! I'm one of the "co-founders" of the Charlotte SKYWARN Net, which began back in 1984 and has continued to the present. In NC, the SKYWARN program is a big part of the NC ARES Program. I have continued to be the EC for the Charlotte Area SKYWARN Net since it's beginning! To read an amusing, historical article about the Charlotte SKYWARN Net, click here.
Well, I guess that
gives you some general info about me and my primary involvement in ham
radio and my other "endeavors." I hope that you will find my web pages
interesting as well as informative {as soon as I learn how to put things
on here correctly, hi}. So, I hope that you will come back often.
If you have any questions or comments concerning my web pages or the Charlotte
Area SKYWARN Net, please use the e-mail address below. Tnx es 73!
