I know nothing about radio stuff (although I do have a MSEE!)... was just searching for anything on Clipperton since it caught my eye one day while scanning a NatGeo world map in my son's room. I thoroughly enjoyed your story (even though I have no idea why you went!) for the adventure and the sheer idea of going somewhere so remote. Thanks again. Some day I'll go there! Scott S.

It was certainly fascinating to read about your undertaking. The technical/gear aspect, which I admitedly have no experience with, is a great resource as well. Pragmatics: I work in the Photo and video library of the World Wildlife Fund. We're looking for an image from Clipperton Island to use on a website hosted jointly by the WWF and the National Geographic Society. The site will document, with maps, photographs and written descriptions, the unique biodiversity features of 867 "ecoregions" covering the entire surface of the earth. If you could respond to my email address N6RT, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks and congratulations on an extraordinary site- Alex Solyom

I thoroughly enjoyed reading your accounts, seeing the photographs of Clipperton island. I am a sportsfisherman, and one day may find myself there too! I fish for a particular specie of "Blue Trevally" that grow to large proportions on Clipperton. In fact, two (2) IGFA records were caught off of Clipperton. I have been on similiar expeditions in the South Pacific, that were similiar in scope to yours. The price of admission is always high when you travel to these rare, "off the beaten path" destinations. In the end, you always are glad that you undertook the venture, and the sacrifice and risks are certainly worth these "once in a lifetime" experiences. I can appreciate your efforts, and applaud your acceptance of the Clipperton challenge. Many thanks for a fine and sucessful expedition. Jeff Konn/Honolulu Hawaii

Although not a DX-er, I've always wanted to visit Clipperton Is. because John Clipperton, the pirate, is almost certainly a distant ancestor - I have studied my family history extensively. I am very interested in this island. I have a former WW2 vet that is now a Travel compnay owner. I asked him the oddest place anyone had ever requested to go and he said "Clipperton Island". I went to this site and was amazed at the WW2 navy connection. To anyone that has been there; Is there anything left of the buildings or other things left from the Navy days? What was there initially in the 40's? I am very interested in this and what is left there. Please email me direct to tell me all you can about what is left from the war on the island besides the old ammo.. Thanks much, Dave Baker

I worked Clipperton Island back in 1978 when I was a Novice,(my call was WD6DXH) but never got the QSL card, Never could here FO0CI well enough to work them, almost missed this one, but worked on 2 bands CW and hooked up the mike and worked on SSB on 1 band, have not worked SSB in well over 6 years, but had to get them on both modes this time. My quest is finaly over, well I still need the QSL cards, this time I'm I hope I get them. I didn't have this much trouble working Heard Island. 73' and thanks. Tom WD6DX

HI. Thanks for the new country. I'm anxous to see the log Search because I think I make it on all bands but would sure like to see it. I do disagree about the decision not to keep the logs current during the operation. I think the short time it would take to down load a days logs far outweights the time it takes to make all the duplicate contacts just for insurance sake. There must be thousands of dupes. I have tried not to do that, but it would be nice to look at the logs to make sure I was there. I could then try to work them again if I didn't find my call... 73s KH6DX/M

I WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH YOUR DEXPEDITION. THE CW OPERATORS WERE EXCELLENT. I WOULD HAVE LIKED IT BETTER IF YOU DID NOT SPLIT OVER 15-20 OR SO KC'S. I THINK 10 WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER ESPECIALLY DURING THE LATTER PART OF YOUR STAY. ALSO I WOULD HAVE LIKED A LITTLE MORE ACTIVITY ON 20M CW. ALL IN ALL IT WAS FUN WORKING THE PILES AND FINALLY MAKING THE CONTACT. 73 ES LOOKING FORWARD TO YOUR QSL. BUTCH, W8KZ.

I hear many comments on the web page that this one or that one couldn't work you, then they say, "I worked you 19 bands/modes I thought getting "Security QSO's" was the "Land of the lid"--Once should be enough for anyone!! Also, I asked (Courteously) for a QRS!@ Was ignored, I can copy 30-35 WPM CW, but the op on 10M was doing 50+--It took three or four "listens" to get offset.. "accuracy transcends speed" --Didn't want you to get the idea you were perfect!!! '73 Jim

For MIKE N9NS; We worked on 10M while you folks were MM on the way to Clipperton. You asked me if I knew KC9FF, Mike. The call was not immediately familiar to me, but when I looked him up in the QRZ database, I immediately knew who it was. He was active in the Bloomington and K9IU ARC's several years ago, but admits to not being active lately. I phoned him and told him I had contacted you on the way, and we had a nice LL QSO. Said he is in a DX club with you, that you are seasoned DXpeditioner, and a nice guy. Have been reading about your adventures; sounds great! Hope you have a safe journey home - congratulations to you and other ops on a most successful venture!! 73 de Maynard N9PTG

My radio club students (see my web page) from K5KHS a couple of times and thus add another pin to the wall map. I even got roomate, AA6VO to work ya'll a couple of times, now the DX bug has bit him! About10 hours ( not more possible-QRL!)spent for(maybe?) 2CW-QSOs only ... so far the worst result in working an expedition like that - but ... in Europe we had a lot of disturbances on the FO0AAA-frequencies ( intentionally, carrier waves, stupid comments , police ...) and I learned again ( looking at the cluster spots) that other parts of Europe have been more lucky with band openings to FO/c- sometimes nothing to hear in middle EU ! But I got sick and tired of these idiots blocking the freq. . I read , that 5% of the population are feeble-minded - why should there be an exception for HAMs ? Finally thank you for the expedition and all the work done ( operators and the people behind !) 73 and all the best Ric, DL2VFR

Perfect job, well done, therefore my CONGRATS!! A few times I had the impression that you were asking "only EU" just to work some more US?!!! Especially at the beginning of your session it was at times impossible to get through the US-wall (how easy it was to work you when you finally announced "only EU" can be shown by the fact that I had to call 2times and was logged - 15 ssb). Sometimes you were still working US when you had 59+ sigs into EU. I personally did not have the time to chase you on all bands but someone told me that you did show up on e.g. 40m too late for central EU one day (?!). Nevertheless I think your expedition was a HUGE success and I say THANK YOU for your good work - a great expedition!!! Vy 73 es a save return home de Oliver, OE5OHO. PS: Where do you go NEXT????!

You did a wonderful job providing Clipperton to the DX community. I first heard Clipperton from Don Wallace's fabulous station, W6AM, when first licensed in Apr/May 1954. I worked the 1958 group from my first QTH, Palos Verdes Estates, CA. I got you on four bands, cw only: 40, 20, 15, and 10. I listended for you on 80 CW, but did not hear you. I was using ctr fed zepps for 40/15/10 and a ctr fed vertical dipole on 20 cw. Looking forward to getting your QSLs later this year. My QSL, with donation, will be mailed in near futre. 73s and Best DX. George

I worked you 5 times total, 3 CW, 1 RTTY and 1 SSB across 40, 20 and 15. Not bad for a barefoot FT-920 into an R7000 wiht a total time investment of under 4 hours. But beyond getting a rare country what I really enjoyed was just listening to the caliber of operators. After I would get my licks in I would just stay on frequency and marvel at the expertise and poise of the operators. I really learned a lot! Thank you Clipperton Crew!! This was the first DxEpedition that I have ever worked from my home station.

My congratulation for operators to exelent job to make great number QSOs on short time like a contest. It was my life and almost 30 years HAM carier must difficult station to get him!! I used 500W and 6 element yagi at upper bands but I seemed and feeled that not a single chance to work this station even I received him with S8-9 (by S-meter!). When the operator was not consequence and stepped his own rule the lids rised up and was only QRM on the freq. (The lids are another story...)
