A brief history of the CFLG

In October of 1992 Dave Grubbs N4EF, Bill Matthews KD4OLE, and Mark Kuziv KC4ZVK met at the Denny's at 436 and the East-West Expressway for what we thought would be just another breakfast to kick around an idea of turning our pastime of talking about scanning informally on the ham radio into an organized radio net. We really had no idea what kind of response we would get or what format this thing would form. Our first net was on Sunday, November the first, 1992 and our original net manager and founder Dave Grubbs N4EF ran the net on the 146.730 MHz repeater in Orlando, Florida. That first net, we had just 13 check ins, but it must have been a lucky number for us because we've been together ever since. We then decided after four months of just nets, to have a get together at the local CHI-CHI'S near Orlando Fashion Square Mall on March 6, 1993 and we had a turnout of 12 people, and the rest is history. Since that time we have had a monthly meeting at either a local eatery or a picnic during the months that our weather permits, or a tour of a radio related area business.
What truely has kept us going all these years is the people. We have developed many friendships that will last forever. Our group has really grown and expanded over the years. We've been recognized in international magazines and radio talk shows and have been accessed via telephone, BBS and our web sites over the years, but most importantly via our Sunday evenings nets in the city beautiful.
