Funwalk 2000 (photo Album)
It is May again. Two Community events - Fun walk sponsored by Canadian Cancer Society and the Mom Sheung Foundation are taking place. CCARS participated as usual to provide 2 way communication support for these two activities. Based on success of using mobile repeater support in our past cases, we finally made ourselves a mobile repeater kit. The kit make it possible to deploy a battery powered UHF repeater with at least 5km hand held access range for most location.
The kit is first tested in the Cancer Society fun run this year. It contains the following:
Coverage of the newly constructed system was tested during the first week - Cancer Society fun walk day. VA3MKO looked after the set up and operation of the repeater. VE3RGW performed coverage plot of the system with live traffic during the fun walk activities. Result indicated a foot print well over 15km radius for hand held operation.
Feeling confident, the same set up is brought over to Baycrest area the next weekend for Mon Sheung's fun walk event. Unlike last time, there is no more blink spot for communication this year.
Thanks again to all participating members.
