Damage Assessment I
Chesapeake Amateur Radio Service "CARS" Members
After a disaster strikes CARS members and friends will be working with the local Tidewater Chapter of the American National Red Cross, in conjunction with Project Impact and the City of Chesapeake.
What you will learn
The training covers the following:
- Learning the roles in damage assessment
- How to write clear & accurate assessments about structural damage
- How to evaluate structural damage
- How to accurately complete assessment reports in a timely fashion.
The Red Cross Damage Assessment trains us to assist the Red Cross to obtain and report information for damage relief operations. This may be done in your own neighborhood or you may volunteer to travel to any location needing your skills.
Amateur Radio Communications
Depending on where Disaster Assessment team members are located various Amateur Radio Frequencies will be used. With the possible exception of Western Branch in Chesapeake, the W4CAR repeater146.820 MHz, will be used in Disaster Assessment reports and coordination in Chesapeake. In Western Branch, you may be directed to use the Portsmouth Repeater, W4POX on 146.850 MHz.
Summary
In summary, the Red Cross wants to insure that persons or groups of people impacted by any disaster (man made or natural) has food and shelter.
Damage Assessment Teams provide the vital information required in order to activate resources for those citizens requiring help.
