September 12, 2002 7:30pm Willow Crossing Attendance 16 Steve, KB9QFT, read minutes of August meeting; approved as read. Lois, KA9IOS, read secretaries report; approved as read. Vern, WA9LCM, brought in a miscellaneous collection of ham radio related hardware collected since his licensing in the mid 50's. Many items were offered to club members for free. Vern has other items he is selling including a Kenwood 7600 two meter mobile with remote head, frequency generator/counter, numerous Heathkit items, and a Rohn class 20 tower in three sections with rotor and control. *** Joe, KA9OPL, initiated a discussion about concerns for the implementation of an input tone on the club's repeater, 146.790-. The deadline previously set by vote at a previous club meeting to be October 1, 2002. The capabilities of the repeater's controller, a S-COM Mark V, were not known by any one present. ( http://www.scomcontrollers.com/ ) Possible implementations might include it could be turned off by DTMF control. If so who would have access to the codes? The DTMF codes might be set to disable the input tone for a specific length of time, perhaps after a lack of input after some pre-set amount of time, after which the input tone would automatically be reimplemented. Marion, WD9HTN, told some of the tone capabilities he thought the controller was capable of. Could the tone be required for weak signals only?, that is set to block only weak signals without the input tone? There was more discussion concerning the technical limitations of the tone implementation. It was brought up whether or not ARES/RACES would be able to disable the tone requirement when they considered it necessary for emergency operations. Many voiced that they should. *** There was no update available on plans for our desired Licensing classes. Marion & Lois presented the local Asthma Walk's desires for Amateur Radio support. The event will be held Saturday, Sept. 28,2002, at CERAland park It will cover a distance of 3.1 miles with the entire route being within the park itself. A net control station and five others are requested. Registration begins at 9am, the walk at 10am and is expected to be completed by noon. One hundred walkers are estimated to participate. Please contact Marion or Lois if you are able to help. *** Wayne Brooks, N9MUS, announced that the ARRL/ARES Simulated Emergency Test or SET previously discussed for a possible date in September has been moved to coincide with the National SET day of October 5,2002. The 'theme' is an explosion in the county courthouse. Contact Wayne if interested in participating. *** The 2003 CARC hamfest is set for a date of April 12. Motion was made and seconded for Marion to place the deposit to secure the facilities at the Bartholomew County fairgrounds. *** Net control for October will be Alvin Koffman, KA9QLQ. Refreshments, not to be missed, will be provided at the October meeting by Marion, WD9HTN. *** Adjourned @ 9:14pm.
