May 5, 2003 Willow Crossing Attendance 19 Joe LaFauci, KA9OPL, club president, presiding. Round table introductions were given. Including the newest license holder at the meeting, who just made her first contact during the past week's radio net, Candace Clancy, KC9BWN. Steve Low, KB9QFT, read the secretary's report of the April meeting. Lois Winterberg, KA9IOS, gave the treasurer's report including the income and expenses of last month's hamfest. Marion Winterberg, WD9HTN, reported on the club's recent hamfest. Ticket sales would indicate an attendance of approximately 390. This is down slightly from the previous year's 410. The general feeling was of a larger crowd. Perhaps those who attended stayed longer or came in all at once? VE testing was held for the second year, which everyone felt has helped attendance. Marion gives thanks to all those who helped to make this year's event a success. The club was benefited by proceeds from the George Sherman estate, and from items donated by CNHS, Vern Garrett (WA9LCM), and others. Vern, currently residing in the Tampa, Florida area has recently been diagnosed with lung cancer. Alvin Koffman, KA9QLQ, has had some contact with Phil Dempelfeld concerning the scheduled Honeysuckle Hundred bicycle ride. This event will be held June 21. For many years the club has provided communications support for this event. No further information is available at this time. Joe briefly covered our Field Day 2003 plans. The club's site for this nationally held annual event will be Mill Race Park on June 28 and 29. Setup will begin at 9am Saturday and will run from 1pm that day to 1pm Sunday. Final plans will be set at the June meeting. Mike Riley, N9LTT, had some thoughts and information on Field Day. An ad should be placed in the local newspaper. Extra points can be earned in many ways. A few of those are by having an elected official appearing at the site, a member of Emergency Services attending, a demonstration of Amateur Television/slow scan, and providing a public information table. A demonstration of satellite communications is scored extra points. Mike will check with ARRL to see if an EchoLink demo would add points. Alvin Koffman, KA9QLQ, stepped up to the plate and hit a home run by offering to place an ad in the Republic's Community Calendar, and delivering an invitation to the mayor, Fred Armstrong, and the EOC's Dennis Moats. Joe has obtained permission from the ARRL to duplicate the CD "Amateur Radio Today" for non commercial use. This video was shown at the March '03 meeting. Marion reports on the repeater news. Bert Baltus, N9LQP, still says he will get the tone input working on our 146.790 repeater. Marion has also asked Bert to get a price for a notch filter. Local users who work the Batesville repeater, 146.805, bring up our repeater as well. This notch filter would be custom built to reject signals in the 800-900 MHz range (the frequencies used by other transmitters at the physical site of our repeater) and 146.205, the Batesville machine's input frequency. Estimated price would be $150-$200. Marion made a motion to authorize that Burt purchase and install such a filter. Chuck McTarsney, KC9DGD, seconded. Discussion was held. Voted, motion passed. Joe has had conversation with Lois concerning the need for the club to have a formal budget. Lois has available our past income and expense records. There was discussion. No action taken. Mike Riley reports no news on the CNHS radio tower. "Scotty", KB9WCQ, passed out pamphlets, literature, and brochures concerning severe weather readiness, SkyWarn, and weather net procedural information. Jim Anderson, N9KVX, sends thanks to the club for our contribution in memory of his mother to the Indianapolis Hospice. The June net control volunteer is always likeable, talented, and humble, yet never shy. He has a face made for radio. None other than the one, the only, our very own, Alvin Koffman, KA9QLQ. Meeting adjourned 9:00pm
