March 11, 1999 CARC Meeting 9 in attendance * Treasurer Lois, KA9IOS, gave the Treasurer's report. In the absence of the Secretary, Marion, WD9HTN, read the February minutes. * Discussion about hamfest: VP Steve, KB9QFT, volunteered to take Columbus Hamfest flyers to the Indy Hamfest. Food, brownies, pies etc. still needed; the Winterbergs and the Smiths are working on pizza. Ken, N9XSO, will provide the 2 meter rig for the talk-in. Noel, N9CJT, will operate the talk-in early shift. Extra flyers have been mailed to new hams listed in the QRZ database. Newspaper ads will be repeated from last year; price has increased about 3%. Marion and Don reported on the contacts they made. Friday afternoon: need people to set up. Friday evening: need a couple of people to check vendors in. Saturday morning: need at least 4 to arrive at 6:00; people at doors at 7:45 for ticket sales. Saturday afternoon: final drawing will be at 2:00; need people to fold up tables and chairs and to clean up. * Steve presented a list of ideas to promote the club. Included: 1) Mail information to new hams in the area 2) Maintain a list of area hamfests 3) Put together a packet of useful information and mail to new hams 4) Mail "expiration notices" to area hams whose licenses are expiring 5) Offer free club membership to area new hams 6) Maintain a club library with instructional books, videos, software 7) Provide rental of equipment that is infrequently used but important Some discussion took place. * Delinquent dues, how to notify and encourage payment, were discussed. * Don will provide refreshments for April. * Steve suprised the those in attendance with a pop quiz on the phonetic alphabet. * The meeting was adjourned at about 9:00.
