Old Business:
Ken Baker brought up that he had located a pair of used tires for the club antenna
trailer last month, however was unable to purchase them without club approval.
In the meantime, those tires have been sold. He has placed inquiries with several tire dealers in the hope that he can find a couple more tires in good condition. There was not a formal motion, however it was agreed that if can find a suitable set of tires, he should go ahead and purchase them if they can be had for less than 55.00
New Business:
Scotty (KB9WCQ) feels that it would be a nice gesture toward new hams in the
area if we were to offer them a one-year free membership to the club. He read a
sample letter of introduction that could be sent to new hams with the offer. There
was some discussion regarding possible restrictions concerning the offer, but it
was finally decided to just make it an open offer. After the discussion, Scotty
made a motion that we should contact newly licensed hams in our area with our offer.
Motion was seconded by Joe LaFauci. Motion carried. Rusty (WB9FIU) volunteered
to monitor the FCC database for new licensed hams in our surrounding area.
Lois Winterberg reported to the club that a former member of the club, Glenn
Flint (WB9VWV) had recently passed away. She made a motion that the club
make a contribution to the First Baptist Church Library Fund in honor of Glenn. The
motion was seconded, and passed by the group.
Rusty (WB9FIU) mentioned that a group of hams in the Ft.Wayne area
are putting together an event on Saturday May 28th to honor those serving in our
military. They would like to have clubs set up at various locations around the state
and possibly handle traffic or send greetings to servicemen to show our appreciation. He passed around a bulletin from the group that explained their objective. Rusty said that he would look into the event in more detail and present it to the club next month.
Hamfest:
Marion Winterberg reported that things are going well with preparations. He proposed that we put an ad in The Republic Newspaper on Sunday 3/27 and Thursday 3/31 the week before the hamfest for a cost of 130.80. Motion was seconded by Jim
Smith and was passed by the group. Marion emphasized that he is still looking for help to setup on Friday evening (4/1) and additional workers are needed on Saturday (4/2).
Misc:
Scotty (KB9WCQ) volunteered to act as net control for the month of April
