March 13, 2003, Willow Crossing Attendance was somewhere between 17-19 depending upon who counted and which time they counted. The meeting was led by Joe LaFauci, KA9OPL, club president. We opened with everyone introducing themselves, name and callsign. Steve Low, KB9QFT, club secretary, read the minutes of last month's meeting. Marion Winterberg, WD9HTN, read the treasurer's report. We missed you Lois. Joe recapped last month's discussions concerning Field Day 2003. Noel Taylor, N9CJT had recently emailed many club members with his proposal that we hold our traditional class 'A ' field day site plus man the Bartholomew County Emergency Operations Center (E.O.C.) and local Red Cross headquarters as two of the newly designated class 'F' class locations. Noel talked about his wishes for doing so. Jim Anderson, N9KVX, (not present) has said that he is willing to head a group stationed at the E.O.C. Some had opinions that both of these permanent sites should be available for use in any homeland security incident or natural disasters independent of any decision we made concerning field day. Other discussion was held. Noel made a motion that the club have one or more class 'F' operations for Field Day at the Bartholomew County E.O.C. either/or the American Red Cross house in addition to the traditional class 'A' site. Further discussions included a question concerning the ARRL rules of operation for F.D and whether or not an individual could log contacts using more than one callsign, that is to say from more than one site. Noel will get a clarification on this rule. Noel withdrew his original motion. He introduced a motion that the club prepares both the E.O.C and the ARC headquarters for possible 'F' class use. Even more discussion was held, including Mike Riley's , N9LTT, proposing that Noel determines what is necessary to ready the sites and setup a work day to accomplish this. Alvin Koffman, KA9QLQ, seconded the motion. The motion passed. Joe appointed Noel to head the committee/group to ready the sites. Volunteers willing to help with this included Alan Wiseman, KC9BOA; Don Keith, WB9SMC; Joe, KA9OPL; Marion, WD9HTN; Mike, N9LTT; Alvin KA9QLQ; Steve, KB9QFT; Edwin "Scotty" Scott, KB9WCQ; Jim Smith, WV9W; Terry Payne KB9SRE. Mike Riley, N9LTT, made a motion that we continue work on our traditional class 'A' site plans. Noel, seconded. Motion passed. Alvin brought us up to date on his contacts with Parks & Rec concerning using one of the city parks for our class 'A' field day site. Alvin's proposal which included a written description of amateur radio, the club, and field day events apparently was approved. His contact, "Cindy", has tentatively scheduled Mill Race Park for our use. The exact location within the park has not been determined. If we wished to secure the use of a shelter house there would be a $70 fee. Parks & Rec will hold a meeting April 10th if the club wishes to present a case for a waiver of that fee. Discussion, would we even need the use of a shelter house? Noel made a motion that we utilize Mill Race Park for the 2003 Field Day event for our class 'A' site and that Mike Riley be appointed to view the site and make a recommendation to the executive committee concerning a location and shelter house need. The executive committee would then be authorized to make the decision for the need of and the payment for the use of a shelter house. Alvin seconded. Motion passed. New Business: Marion made a motion that the club honor local ham operator George Sherman, W9MYO, a recent "silent key" with a donation of $30 to the local Catholic Church building fund. Alan Wiseman seconded. Motion passed. Columbus Hamfest Saturday, April 12, 2003 8am. To 2pm Marion presented what advertising the club has done for past hamfests and the costs. He made a motion that we run the Sunday display ad the Sunday prior the event and a classified ad for two days, the Thursday and Friday prior. Alan seconded. Motion passed. Marion reports that the Kenwood mobile dual band , this year's grand door prize, has arrived. Kenwood has said they will be shipping a donation of hat's and other items for use as door prizes also. Marion went over some items and people needs for the event. The talk-in station set up at the hamfest will need people to man it throughout the event. The necessary antenna, portable tower, coax and such the club has. A power supply was offered for use by Alan, KC9BOA. Steve, KB9QFT, will supply the radio. Setup for the event will be Friday beginning at 1:00pm Volunteer to help! Saturday a.m., four people will be needed early. Kitchen worker volunteers will be needed. Food for the kitchen can be donated including brownies, pies, NO CAKES , and soft drinks. (KB9RBB, Thomas Achors, has sent word that he will be donating four pies- Alan). Scotty will be bringing donuts for the vendors Saturday am. On that morning six or more people will be needed to work. VE testing will be held again this year at 11am in the Fair office. Mike Riley has authorized club members to sell the items donated by CNHS. Prices will be marked but are negotiable, he wishes to take nothing home after the hamfest. Net control for April 2003: Noel Taylor, N9CJT. Don't miss the April Fool's day net! Alvin Koffman, KA9QLQ, will be back up. Joe showed a short video from the ARRL featuring Walter Cronkite entitled "Amateur Radio Today". A good presentation and promotional piece for our hobby. Meeting was adjourned sometime on the evening of 3/13/2003. Wears me out just typing it!!!! A very busy meeting.
