Marion, WD9HTN, passed out "work details" for upcoming hamfest. Setup is April 5th at 1pm, Hamfest will need workers starting at 6am, Sat. April 6th. A Kenwood dual band mobile, TM-G707a has been purchased for a door prize. Motion was made, 2nd, and passed to place ads in publications as we did last year with changes as necessary. This will include the announcement of VE testing for licensing. Old business: Mike Riley, N9LTT, announced that the ARRL has named Columbus North High School as a pilot school in their "Big Project", a grant to introduce amateur radio. Included in the grant is a Yaesu FT-847 multi band transceiver, antennas, coax, etc. A participation of the club is encouraged by the ARRL, including a financial contribution of two hundred dollars to purchase related books and educational supplies. Motion to support made, seconded, and passed. From Marion: Ed Krome, K9EK, will be making a local move and has several items to donate he will be wanting to get rid of. John Hodel, KD9RH, has donated a Kenwood dual band HT, model TH77a to the club. Discussion on pricing and selling this unit. Someone had recently asked about low loss coax cable. Marion showed a sample of what was recommended and purchased for use on our repeater, LMR 600. New business: Noel Taylor, N9CJT, presented a proposition from the American Red Cross. They have been asked to join the East Columbus Fire Department in the development of a new building in the East Columbus area and to house their operations there. Red Cross directors have asked that the CARC be involved in an EOC development there. This would include consultation for amateur radio equipment, and manpower in installation of such equipment at some future date. After some discussion, Noel moved that the club agree to provide advisory support, monetary support (not to exceed $300), pending commitment by the Red Cross to participate in said building project. Motion & 2nd, and passed. Alvin brought up question if club wishes to hold upcoming Field Day event at Willow Crossing as previously. Noel made motion to hold event here, 2nd, and passed. Greg Simo, KC9AAO, asked about Severe Weather Net protocols and other local amateur radio area practices and routines, etc. The local repeater frequency 146.790(-) is our local choice and 146.490 Simplex in case of repeater failure. Scotty plugged the Franklin club's CW ham licensing classes and brought information concerning an upcoming bicycle event at the county fairgrounds, Spring Pedal 2002, April 20, 2002 discussion was concerning providing communication for the event.
