Marion read the following article which appeared in the Republic newspaper May 28, 2004:

         Looking Back

                    1954

Ham radio operators in the

Columbus area completed for-

mation of the Columbus Ama-

teur Radio Club.  Officers elected

were Robert Pollitt as president,

James Heavern as vice presi-

dent, Ralph Dobbins as secre-

tary-treasurer and Paul V.

Castner as publicity director.

This came as a bit of a surprise to the local club members!  Thanks to the Republic for pointing out this important milestone, our 50th anniversary.

The “new” 146.790 repeater is running well.  Still no courtesy beep at the end of transmissions.  Burt Baltus, N9LQP questioned if the commercial version repeater even has such capability since commercial/professional users typically do not have such a tone, but it will be looked into.  The new controller is NOT yet in operation.

Mentioned was the fact that the new repeater produces its CW id WITHOUT the 100hz output tone.  If your radio is programmed with the tone squelch , you will only hear the id during a QSO.

New Business:

Marion brought before the club information that the ARRL  is soliciting for financial support in its fight against the implementation of  broadband over power lines (BPL).  See the ARRL website for more information at http://www.arrl.org/.  Discussion.  Marion made the motion that the club donate $100 for such support. Seconded. Passed.
