July 8, 2004   Parkside Baptist Church                        attendance 17

Roundtable introductions were given.

MTR 2004:

Representatives of the 2004 Midwest Tandem Rally, MTR2004, included Charlie Zaharako  and  Don Kirk, WD8DSB.  This event is a large gathering of tandem bicycle riders expected to number 400 to 600 bikes, that’s over 1000 riders!  Tours will be ridden on Saturday and Sunday; September 4th and 5th.  The Saturday ride is east from the Holiday Inn Headquarters to points as far as Anderson Falls and Hartsville.  The Sunday ride encompasses southwestern Bartholomew County and more, including Story, Freetown, Spraytown, and Bobtown; and a  lunch stop in Waymansville.  Don Kirk,WD8DSB is acting as communications coordinator for the group.  He has detailed their needs for each of the two days, Radio Support. .  We will be utilizing both the 146.790 and the 147.300 repeaters. There are many stationary and roving positions available.  The regular scheduled club meeting, August 12 will be used to draw up a preliminary list of volunteers. Contact the club secretary to volunteer. Listen to our weekly nets for updated information.  A special net for volunteers may be held prior to the event.  I plan to have any special nets recorded for the website.

Packet Radio:

Jerry Kutche, N9LYA, gave a presentation concerning packet radio.  A Brownstown node is on the air , and a node is going soon in Spencer.  Check out  N9LYA.com for many links and updated information.

Field Day 2004:

A total of 233 contacts were made, including 60 CW contacts. 1100 points approximately.  More fun than points despite this being the smallest turn out for our group I have seen in the past few years.

Historical Records:

A box of records including meeting minutes, photos, and other “what else can you call it but memorabilia”  was brought to the meeting by Paul Bartlett, N9TLF, dating back to the very beginnings of the Columbus Amateur Radio Club.  The club secretary intends to preserve these records but also to digitally scan them all. This may be a large project and may take a while but I intend to make CD/DVD’s available upon completion.

Minutes of the June meeting were read and the treasurer’s report were given.

Some discussion about the repeater and controller… no change.

N9TLF volunteered for net control for August.
