CARC MINUTES

February 14, 2008

Meeting: Called to order by President Brian at 7:30 P.M. with 14 people present.

Reports: The secretary and treasurer presented their updates. Both were accepted and approved as read.

Club web site update: Kat (KC9JEH) has been working on some suggestions to add freshness to the club site. Here is a link to her modified version. CARC Test Site Steve (KB9QFT) has made some improvements to the current site.

Lois (KA9IOS) brought up discussion regarding PayPal. She stated that our PayPal account is a business level account which means that each time we accept dues through it, the $10 payment is effectively reduced to $8.50 due to the service charge which is applied to the transaction. After some discussion, Lois (KA9IOS) made a motion that we close the PayPal account. The motion was seconded by Gary (KD9SB) and the motion carried.

Hamfest: Preparations are well under way. Brochures have been mailed. The hamfest will take place on March 29, 2008. We will have VE testing once again this year. Table reservations continue coming in and we expect a good representation of vendors. We will spend time in our March meeting finalizing any necessary details. As always, volunteers will be needed throughout the event.

Ham class: This is still under discussion. No major action has been taken.

Antenna Analyzer: Marion (WD9HTN) prepared a page to be used by people when checking out the club’s MFJ-269 Antenna Analyzer.
Discussion followed, with one minor change recommended. Marion will type up the final sign-out form and we will begin using it in the equipment check-out process.

DX CW Contest: Jim (N9KVX) reminded everyone about the contest to be held on February 16-17. Anyone interested will meet at the EOC around 1:00 P.M.

Donation: Lois (KA9IOS) announced that we received a letter from “Volunteers In Medicine” thanking us for the $50 donation which was made in memory of Anna Arnholt-Taylor (K9RXK).

Club Patch: Marion (WD9HTN) investigated and there are some possibilities. However, we decided to table the topic so that we can finish exploring our options.

Net Control: Noel (N9CJT) volunteered to serve as Net Control for March.

Ham Class: We again discussed the idea of running a ham class. We concluded that it would be good to pursue this endeavor but looking toward the summer would be most favorable for scheduling.

ARES/RACES: Jim (N9KVX) announced that Noel (N9CJT) has accepted the position of local ARES coordinator. Jim noted that we may be receiving some funding for RACES. He also reported that the State RACES test went very well. The participation was at record levels, with 61 counties and close to five hundred check-ins.

Special Event: Marion (WD9HTN) mentioned that he became aware of a special event to be held on April 12-13 to commemorate the sinking of the Titanic. For details visit the W0S website.

Addendum: A small group of us met at the EOC as planned on Saturday, February 16, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. We attempted to get PSK31 working but were unsuccessful. We made a CW contact on 20-meters. It was agreed that this is a worthwhile activity and we plan to meet on the third Saturday of each month at the EOC to experiment with modes and generally exercise our equipment. This gives us an opportunity to find and fix problems so there will be less surprises in an emergency.
