The December 12, 2002 meeting of the Columbus Amateur Radio Club was held Willow Crossing. In attendance were fifteen members. The meeting was led by club President, Joe LaFauci, KA9OPL. Minutes of the November meeting were read by Steven Low, KB9QFT. Secretary's report was read by Lois Winterberg, KA9IOS. There had been neither income nor expenses in the past month. Oh, if our personal finances were quite as easy! Marion Winterberg, WD9HTN, gave an update on the tone implementation on the 146.790 repeater. Burt Baltus, N9LQP, has been unable to check the system due to his health and business load. Marion had asked that he put us on the work list and that we would pay for the service. Maybe next week???? The six meter beam mentioned at last month's meeting is still available to anyone interested. Contact Marion for details. A question was asked about the previously discussed licensing classes (see minutes of the October, 2002 meeting) which had been proposed for January 13 - February 17. This had been spearheaded by Mike Riley, N9LTT. Mike was not in attendance at tonight's meeting. No one present had any first hand information as to status of licensing classes. Jim Seddon, N8PEJ, has been recently hospitalized at Columbus Regional Hospital with quadruple bypass surgery. *** Election of officers: Edwin "Scotty" Scott, KB9WCQ, and Noel Taylor, N9CJT, of the nominating committee presented that the 2002 officers had offered to remain in their present positions for the following year, excepting the office of Vice President for which they nominated Alvin Koffman, KA9QLQ. President: Joe LaFauci, KA9OPL Vice President: Alvin Koffman, KA9QLQ Secretary: Steve Low, KB9QFT Treasurer: Lois Winterberg, KA9IOS Member of Board of Directors: Marion Winterberg, WD9HTN Motion was made and seconded to accept the slate to hold office for 2003 as nominated. Motion passed. *** Paul Bartlett, N9TLF, remains editor of the Transmitter newsletter. David Dye, KB9RBC, remains webmaster of the club's website (http://www.qsl.net/carc) Noel has contact with a landscaper who has opportunity to find unwanted tower structures, which would be available to those willing to remove them. Some discussion. Alvin requested any suggestions for Field Day 2003. One of the suggestions included one of the city parks, perhaps the Westenedge "Pavilion"? There were some questions about us being allowed to set up and stay overnight, concern for RF interference to nearby homes, and the noise of our generator running throughout the night. Alvin will check with Parks & Rec to see if this is even a possibility. Noel spoke about the past word of a possible Red Cross Team reorganization which would have removed Amateur Radio operators from specific teams and created a pool resource of hams which could be drawn from as needed by any team. This has not taken place as of this date. Winter Weather training is scheduled for December 14 at 10am at the Nashville, Indiana Public Library. Talk-In on 147.300 , tone 88.5. Club dues remain at ten dollars per year. Membership benefits include the Transmitter newsletter. January 2003 Net Control: E. "Scotty" Scott, KB9WCQ. Refreshments: Alvin Koffman, KA9QLQ. Meeting adjourned.
