Willow Crossing August 14/2003 attendance 19 The meeting was led by Joe LaFauci, KA9OPL. roundtable introductions were made. Steve Low, KB9QFT, gave the secretaries report for the July meeting Lois Winterberg gave the treasurer’s report Mike Riley has submitted our Field Day scores for the official tally. Joe praised the site hosting our club’s website and related that the service is provided on a donation basis. Discussion. Mike Riley made the motion that the club donate $25.00 to qsl.net, seconded and passed. Joe suggested that this should be a regular annual donation. We intend to do this each April. **** Wayne Brooks, N9MUS, gave a briefing on the recent ARES/RACES meeting held August 2nd. Some points included in particular situations which is appropriately activated ARES or RACES or both, Standards of Operating Procedures, a contact list for the Emergency Management Director, and a radio checklist for the Emergency Operations Center (E.O.C.). A declaration was passed that in case of local repeater failure the designated frequency of operation for ARES will be 146.790 simplex. Included in attendance at that meeting were representatives of the Brown County and Johnson County ARES/RACES groups. ARES/RACES have another Simulated Emergency Test, S.E.T. similar to last year’s event in the early planning stages. Watch for scenario details, expect a September or October date. **** If you don’t read the rest of the minutes READ THIS: Alvin Koffman, KA9QLQ, made the motion to designate 146.790 simplex as the club’s primary backup frequency (i.e. In the event of a repeater failure) and 146.490 as the designated secondary frequency to which user’s would be directed to pass traffic. The motion was seconded and passed. Alvin then made a clever recommendation that you program one the memory channels in your transceiver to the 146.790 frequency, simplex mode, AND with a 100hz PL tone encode. This 100hz PL sub audible tone will, hopefully, soon be required to access the 146.790 repeater. Using the tone on even your simplex transmission will not effect those users without the decode capability but will allow those who have this CTCSS sub audible tone programmed in their receivers to continue to pick up those transmissions and be informed that the repeater is down. Marion Winterberg, WD9HTN, brought our back up repeater to the meeting. It is a Maggiore Electronics Laboratory’s HiPro Mk II about fifteen years old. It does not have the CTCSS tone capability. http://www.hiprorepeaters.com/Default.htm Marion has received letters asking for assistance with bicycle rides being held by the Bloomington Bicycle Club.
