"Scotty" Scott, KB9WCQ, told that Joan Kemp, N9DON, past vice president and secretary of the Franklin Amateur Radio Club has died recently. Scotty has word from Ron Cummings, KB9SQZ, that he has a FREE element 6/2m yagi antenna. Marion Winterberg, WD9HTN, Scotty and, Chuck McTarsney, KC9DGD, attended the 4pm meeting of the Columbus Parks & Rec. The fee for the use of the shelter house on Field Day has been waived. Thank you Marion for your presentation to the board and to the others for their support and attendance. The George Shireman estate has donated equipment to the club for sale at the upcoming hamfest. These items will be marked with yellow tags. Please record the purchase prices and report to Marion. There will be a weather spotters class in the basement of the Bakalar Airport terminal April 16 at 1:00pm. Submit your name to Noel Taylor or Dennis Moats (E.O.C.) to reserve your place. Marion took a list of volunteers for the hamfest setup scheduled for 1pm April 11. There are other volunteer needs are for the April 12 event. 6am activities begin. Doors open at 8am. Club members are asked to help as they are available. There are plenty of positions to go around. Kenwood "freebies", mentioned last month, have not arrived. The dual band mobile Kenwood which we purchased for the grand door prize is here. Marion passed on word from Noel Taylor, N9CJT. The Red Cross has signed a letter of intent with the East Columbus Volunteer Fire Department to occupy space in their new building. They have not yet broken ground but completion is anticipated for 2004. This means we will not be preparing the present Red Cross building for a "F1" Field Day site.
