All about us, the .
Well, this is pretty much the scope of
what we are all about (once we get properly set-up)....
- The club is really for anyone who
is intersted in radio, no matter what aspect, be it
scanner enthusiasts, CBers, Hams or SWLs. It is the
general get together of people who have a common
interest.
- For those in the club who are
amateurs, we cover the full scope of modes and bands, but
as yet, we do not have a club callsign for
that.
- Teaching budding hams what they
want to know, there are some Elmers about town and they
are providing great support which we really appreciate.!!
- We are in the process of holding
exams, although practice exams are held regularly to give
people an idea of the sorts of questions they will get
and if they are likely to pass, practice CW (morse code)
exams are also conducted but we have not yet got any
Amateurs who hold AE numbers, so we are applying for
those, which we hope will get here soon.
- We have field days every month
where the club goes out to a location and tries its luck
with the backup and other power sources and portable
radios that we have, and because Broome is in a
cyclone area during the wet season, November to April,
this is good practice for the day when a cyclone may hit,
or we can supply emergency communications to a nearby
town called Derby, which is only about 200 kilometres
away.
- We hold contests, conduct RDF
experiments and get on-the-air as much as possible, this
way, budding hams can get a taste of what Amateur Radio
is all about and decide if they really want to be a part
of it.
- The Jamboree of the air is to
become one of the main features during each year. This is
where Scouts have the opportunity to visit a ham shack to
make contact all over the world, with other Scouts,
giving the usual details of name, hobbys,
interests, pets, etc. This is also a (good) way for
scouts to make friends all over the world....
- Like any other club, ours respects
its members, but we still expect them to be
courteous to other club members and to people on the
radio.
