QRZ me - pointing directional antennas using qrz.com

Pointing at other nodes can be a challenge, especially if you don't know where to look.  I found a way to make it easy to point at your fellow MESH enthusiasts.  Go to qrz.com and create an account if you have not done so.  It's free and painless.

Once you have created an account, log in and click on your call sign, located on the top right of the page.

A menu will appear.

Click on 'Edit (your call sign)'.

Click on 'map, grid square and coordinate settings'.

A map will appear on the page.

Be sure that 'actual location, with pointer' is selected in the mapping options drop down menu. (it is by default)

Click on 'satellite' on the top right of the map.

Zoom down and scroll till you can clearly see your house, or antenna location. ( I zoom down to scale 19 as displayed in red under the map)
note: its not a real time view so you may not see a new installation or home. Just get as close as you can.

Drag the red 'pin' by clicking and holding down your left mouse button on it.

Drag the pin until the little crosshair underneath it rests as close as possible to your antenna location.  Release the pin when you are happy.  You can do this as often as you like till you are happy.

When you are finished click the 'save' button that is below the map.

Done!  Now when someone looks up your call sign, and they have also done this, they will see compass bearings as well as a line drawn on the map to your location.  And of course you can see bearings and lines for anyone else you look up.

Privacy may be a concern and some of you may not wish to leave the pin on your house.  You can set this any time, or move it off of your location, but this is really handy way to aim at other nodes.
