Mock Disaster Sept 25th, 2013

Amateur Radio of Dryden took part in the TransCanada Pipeline's Mock Disaster

The club has started the process to raise money for a Mobile Communications Trailer, that would give us the ability to go anywhere within the city or to outlying areas, where we may be needed.

We utilized VA3EXT's 8.5'x16' enclosed cargo trailer to operate the club's portable station at the Mock Disaster.

We plan to start with a trailer like this & modify to our needs, having all our equipment ready to go when needed.

To date our club has acquired all the necessary communications equipment for the trailer including a Base Station, portable antenna and a 5000 watt generator. Trans Canada Pipelines has contributed $5000.00 towards the purchase of the trailer. Applications to the Trillium Foundation for funding were unsuccessful. We still need another $8000.00 to acquire a 16’ Cargo Trailer and modify it to our needs.

Our Club is one of many support groups identified in the City of Dryden Emergency Plan.  Sec. 5.10 of the plan states that the Amateur radio Society will provide Radio Equipment and Operators if requested by the Control Group as we have done in the past. Presently, the City provides us with a meeting room, a Communications Room in the Fire Hall and a Tower Site for our repeater.
