 January 14th, 2009 Meeting Minutes

Old Business

VA3EXT presented the members with a list of amateur radio equipment that VE3UKK donated to the club, because he is retiring from ham radio.  The club will keep some of the equipment for the Emergency Trailer.  For any remaining equipment, Scott will do a price comparison and post the list on our web site.

Bob, VE3YDN reported on the Trillium Exercise in Thunder Bay.  Woody, VE3JJA had asked that Dryden Amateurs man the Emergency Operations Centre at the fire hall in case the Thunder Bay exercise needed to activate the NW Ontario Emergency Net.  Bryan, VA3BRY, Bob, VE3YDN and George, VA3JGM manned the EOC, but were not assigned any tasks by the Trillium Exercise Management Team.

 

Thanks to Rick, VA3RGA, for presenting the wreath at the Remembrance Day Service.

 

Christmas Parade coverage went well.  The Chamber of Commerce expressed their thanks and donated $200 to the club.

 

Twenty five members, spouses and family members attended the clubs Christmas Supper.

 

Leo, VE3ASS, passed away.  The memorial service held at the Oxdrift Community Hall was well attended.

  

New Business

 

The Rugby Creek Winterfest Dog sled race is scheduled for February 21.  Several members volunteered to provide communications from the checkpoints back to the start/finish line.

 

A general discussion followed on re-applying for grant(s) for the clubs Emergency Communications Trailer.

 

Scott, VA3EXT, advised that with the increase power levels on the UHF link transmitters, he needed to purchase a 100-watt UHF element  for the Bird Wattmeter, at a cost of $56.63.  The club reimbursed him for the expense.

 

Scott will be rebuilding radios for the Blackhawk VE3RBK site.  It has good coverage from Rainy River to Fort Frances to Nestor Falls.  Fort Frances hams will provide a controller for the site.

 

Camp Rob repeater, VE3VBY, is not working well.  Time and trip permitting, Scott will check it.

 

Warren has a simplex IRLP node setup for Ear Falls, but hasnt had time to go up to install it.  VA3EOE will operate on 146.550, PL - 123Hz.  Warren will also be upgrading VE3RIB.
