Tom was first introduced to ARMS while stationed at Hill AFB, in Ogden, UT as the operator at the Base MARS station, to set up and reactivate it. The Collins KWM-2A was tuned up using the log periodic on 14.307.5 Mhz. When the net control asked for further check-ins, the transmitter fired up with, This is WØETA, short time. From that day on, Tom had the radio warmed up and ready when Chuck Brockmeyer came in for his morning break.
