Some Thoughts for BCARES Members

As BCARES members it is important to:

Participate in BCARES events – both emergency and non-emergency (practice is important.)

Respond to e-mails and calls, even if you must say no – the silent approach just makes people wonder if your contact information is correct.

Keep your contact information up-to-date.

Stay up on your operating skills – practice old ones and learn new ones (packet, ATV, digital…)

Become self-educated by taking advantage of training sessions and Internet resources.

Check in on the BCARES Net – Monday evenings at 8 PM on 146.76- W0IA repeater.

Guard your ID Badge as you would your drivers’ license or social security number.

We are not “lights & siren first responders” but a prompt response is expected.

Ham radio is a hobby but we are professional in the way we handle ourselves.

* We are communicators first. We provide voice, digital, and video information to our served agencies. We do not do “Police” work (ie: road blocks, warnings, tickets, enforce laws, etc.) You have the right to refuse an assignment. Your welfare and your family come first. We are volunteers. We are depended upon by the County and an integral part of their emergency plan.
