Minutes:

The June meeting minutes were reviewed.  The phone number for the BCARES pager was corrected.  Jane Przedpelski moved that the minutes be approved as corrected.  Motion carried.

Opening discussion

Jim Kubitschek led a brief discussion of the hospital packet exercise.  Doshia Krektke agreed to write a description of where the antenna connections are at Boulder Community Hospital (The packet kits already have maps of the other hospitals)

This evening’s question was “Are we doing enough to be prepared”. Andy Przedpelski asked about notification for callout when the power or phone systems are out.  Jim noted that we should give the membership a reminder that members should listen to 146.76.

Doshia reported that Ellie Van Winkle agreed to coordinate callouts in event of emergency.

Coming exercises

Doshia will attend a meeting on August 22 at LUH to find out about an upcoming drill there.

The national SET will be in October.  We need to plan a BCARES participation in it.  We’ve done a packet exercise at the hospitals, we’ll be doing TV at football games, maybe we should do a multi-hop voice SET or a multi-mode SET.

APRS

There was a brief discussion of the potential of using APRS. No action was taken.

Steve Price volunteered to present an APRS demo for a membership meeting.  The board agreed to have a membership meeting at BARCFEST consisting mainly of the APRS demo.  Jack Ciaccia agreed to arrange for the meeting room and will have the BCARES meeting announced and advertised as part of BARCFEST.

Membership/activities

Jim K. Said some potential new members are in the works.

Dale Scott wrote a draft of letter to the membership.  Jim passed copies around. It updates the membership about what has happened lately and lists some goals for the coming year.

Web page update: Nima has more work to do. Jack Ciaccia has a few ideas and will discuss them with Nima. Jim passed out a draft suggestion of the content for the page.

Jim Kubishchek said he will send a contribution to qsl.net to support then as they provide our web space.

Football

Nima has some volunteers and will continue to solicit more.  Nima has had some trouble contacting John Kruger, the CU athletic director.  We need to get access to the stadium for testing.  CU has said they only want the two roving cameras, but not the one in Dal Ward.

Bylaws

Jane wrote up a list of proposed changes. A few additional changes were suggested.  A final draft will be distributed in advance of the September meeting.  The plan will be to vote on the bylaws at the September meeting.  They must be filed with the state and a filing fee must be paid.

Repeaters

Jim Kubitschek will ask Mike Borenstein to make a map showing the locations of all the receivers of the 146.76 repeater.

Equipment

Pete Goldmain arranged for the broken Sony video camera to be repaired by Mike’s Camera for $60 using used parts.  The repair has been completed.

Pete Goldman said he would like to have assistance in taking care of the gear, especially the pieces that are in Longmont.

In Longmont we have antennas, TVs, and a radio in the SWAT van, and Steve Price has the HF set and packet 4.  Steve has given Pete packet set 4 so Pete can update the KD0RC software on the PC.

In Boulder we have the main equiment cache and we also have gear in the police van and the comm van.

CU Liasion

Jim K, Jim Andrews, and Nima Ghravi met with representatives of CU. CU has a list of suggested locations to install antennas: the env. Health & safety bldg, the police building, the union, and the new ICV. The CU representatives indicated that they would pay for this equipment.  BCARES will give them a list of what equiment would be appropriate.

Next meeting

The next meeting will be September 18 at 7:00 PM.

Adjournment:

Moved by Pete Goldman at 8:58.
