The Alaska Amateur Radio Repeater Coordination Website is now on-line and ready for use. This website will provide repeater owners and trustees an easy way to keep their coordination current. The site also offers a list of coordinated repeaters for viewing, as well as a printable repeater list.

ACWN operations continue on 3534kHz and 7042kHz. Please note the 80m frequency change due to local interference. AL7N has provided an update on ACWN operations and invites interested stations to check in. The ACWN Mission Statement is also available for download in Microsoft Word format.

The November edition of ARES Alert is available for download in Microsoft Word format. Included are reports on the October Anchorage EOC orientation and upcoming ARES training sessions.

Registration opens Tuesday, November 5, at 4 PM Eastern Time (2100 UTC) for the ARRL Level I Emergency Communications course (EC-001). Registration remains open through the November 9-10 weekend or until all available seats have been filled--whichever comes first. Class begins Tuesday, November 19. Thanks to the federal homeland security grant from the Corporation for National and Community Service, the $45 registration fee paid upon enrollment will be reimbursed after successful completion of the course. You need not hold an ARRL Field Organization appointment to enroll in this course.

Registration opens Tuesday, October 1, 4 PM Eastern Daylight Time (2000 UTC) for the ARRL Level I Emergency Communications course (EC-001) supported by the recent federal homeland security grant from the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS).

This class is reserved for up to 200 students who now hold an official ARRL field appointment (ie, ACC, ASM, BM, DEC, EC, LGL, NM, OBS, OES, OO, OOC, ORS, PIC, PIO, SEC, SGL, SM, STM, TC or TS). Registration will remain open until Monday, October 14, or until all 200 seats have been filled--whichever comes first.

Students taking advantage of Level I emergency communications training under the CNCS grant program will be asked to pay for the course via credit card during registration. Upon successfully completing the training and certification, students will be reimbursed the $45 fee.

ARES Alert, the Anchorage ARES newsletter is now available in Microsoft Word format. Highlights include the introduction of the new Anchorage ARES organization and training opportunities available at the next Anchorage ARES meeting, 0930-1200, Saturday, September 21, 2002 at the Carr-Gottstein Building on the APU campus; the meeting is open to all amateurs and their guests.

Amateur Radio emergency communications training supported by a $181,900 federal homeland security grant will begin within a few weeks. ARRL Chief Development Officer Mary Hobart, K1MMH, says the national program will begin September 1 with the recruitment of at least 200 additional mentors and trainers. These volunteers then will help to manage and train the student load during the first year of the grant.

In a 9 to 6 vote today, the American Radio Relay League Board of Directors eliminated Section News and Contest Scores from QST magazine. As of the January 2003 issue of QST, Section News will be relocated from QST to the ARRL web site.

The ARRL will receive a $181,900 homeland security grant from the US government to train Amateur Radio operators in emergency communication. The grant, from the Corporation for National and Community Service special volunteer program, will provide free ARRL Amateur Radio Emergency Communications Course training to 5200 volunteers nationwide, starting in 2003.
