Meeting Minutes



The meeting was called to order on October 4, 2009 with 11 members and guests present.

MOTION: to accept the September minutes by Edgar (KC8VLV), seconded by Victor (WD8DWR), approved.

TREASURES REPORT: Suzanne reported that our balance stands at $484.00.

DISASTER REPORT: ARCARS were not called out for assistance in September. There were two calls posted in our area with one large fire in Kimball at 4:20am this date on Marquette Road. Several calls were issued in the Sarnia area. Lapeer, Sanilac and Macomb counties are requesting assistance for “Angles Night” patrols.

NET REPORT: Edgar (KC8VLV) reported that there were 4-5 check-ins including some of the regular hams, e.g. VE3FBH, KO8S, N8PDP, and others.

SPECIAL EVENTS: Tom (W8TRC) reported that the USECA Swap will be held at the Polish Community Center on 10/25/09.

CLUB STATION: Andrew (KC8SPD) reported that our station, 146.800 now known as the K8ARC, is “ON THE AIR” officially on Tuesday night, 10/6/09. This station will have a PL of 100Hz and a negative offset. Andrew also reported that there are several new options in work e.g. weather reporting and autopatch.

Tom (W8TRC) donated a G5RV antenna for the ARCARS truck and we sincerely thank him.

Wayne of the Marine Division and Hazmat Team donated two Motorola CDM1250 radios (approximate value $1000 each) to ARCARS. Andrew (KC8SPD) reported that we spent $28 for new cables to install these radios in the ARC truck.

NEWSLETTER: Our newsletter and web page is normally available at www.qsl.net/arcars and www.bandopening.com/arcars . There is a wealth of information available on the website including the RSS feed.

CLUB PROJECT: The 146.800 repeater is an ongoing project and will be so for some time to come.

OLD BUSINESS: None reported

NEW BUSINESS: Andrew reported that a new radio bench will be in work for the ARC truck.

DX SPOTS/ SPECIAL EVENTS: Paul (KG8OU) reported that Saudi Arabia was a “hot spot” about two weeks ago with several contacts made.

ANNOUNCEMENTS and other info:

The ARCARS & International Traders Net is held every Tuesday evening at 8pm on the 147.300 K8DD repeater.

The International Friendship Net is held every Thursday at 9pm on the 145.370-VA3SAR repeater

The Thumb / Mid Michigan Nets are held Monday through Saturday at 9:30pm on the 147.300 repeater.

HF: The Great Lakes Emergency and Traffic Net is held nightly at 8pm on 3.932 kHz

The AC8W DX Cluster on 144.970 MHz is available. Check it for HF activity.
