Meeting Minutes

 

The meeting was called to order on January 4, 2009 with 20 members and guests present.

A call up sheet was passed during the meeting listing updated contact information to be used in the event that ARCARS is callout for volunteer efforts. The concept is to communicate using text messaging on cell phones.

TREASURES REPORT: Suzanne reported that our balance stands at $184.00.

DISASTER REPORT: Members of ARCARS and efforts of the local amateur community were involved in relief efforts for local flooding along the Black River. An ice jam was blamed for rising water levels that threatened homes along the river. Volunteers made and stacked sand bags in efforts to divert the rising waters.  

NET REPORT: Edgar (KC8VLV) reported that net participation had been light over the holidays.  Please make note to participate in the local nets. The ARCARS net meets every Tuesday at 8pm on 147.570 MHz simplex.

SPECIAL EVENTS: There was a sign up sheet for the upcoming 4H fair event.  The event will be supported by ARCARS the weekend of July 27th – August 1st.  the plan is to have 3 groups of 3 people working 4 hour shifts to provide communications for the event. The list will be circulated at each meeting until the event is held.

It was decided that the group will support the Fall Harvest Days event at the St. Clair County Farm Museum. The concept is demonstrate amateur radio at the event to help draw additional attendance. Mark (N8KAV) will provide more details as the event nears. The expected time of the event is The end of August or the beginning of September.

CLUB STATION: The K8ARC packet station was to be restored back to service after the meeting.

NEWSLETTER: Our newsletter and web page is normally available at www.qsl.net/arcars .The  www.bandopening.com/arcars  both of these locations are temporary out of service. Our backup site https://home.comcast.net/~n8egj/arcars will serve us until the above services are restored. We have a wealth of information available on the website including the RSS feed.

CLUB PROJECT: The radio room expansion project is postponed pending obtaining the materials needed to complete the work. A sketch of the completed project was circulated

OLD BUSINESS:

NEW BUSINESS: Edgar (KC8VLV) donated a 300W 12V inverter to the club.

DX SPOTS/ SPECIAL EVENTS: Paul reported that a special event station in Palestine is active on HF.

AFTER MEETING ACTIVITY: An awesome presentation of Software Defined Radio was given by Mike (AA8K).

ANNOUNCEMENTS and other info:

The ARCARS & International Traders Net is held every Tuesday evening at 8pm on the 146.800 NA8I repeater.

The International Friendship Net is held every Thursday at 9pm on the 145.370-VA3SAR repeater

The Thumb / Mid Michigan Nets are held Monday through Saturday at 9:30pm on the 147.300 repeater.

HF: The Great Lakes Emergency and Traffic Net is held nightly at 8pm on 3.932 kHz

The AC8W DX Cluster on 144.970 MHz is available. Check it for HF activity.
