ARCARS
February 2002
Meeting Minutes
The meeting was called to order with 12 members and guests present.
MOTION to accept the January minutes by Kip (KB8WWH), seconded by Suzanne (KB8GFY), accepted.
TREASURES REPORT:
Suzanne reported that our balance still stands at $402.13.
MOTION to accept the Treasures Report by Gene (NA8I), seconded by Andrew (KC8SPD), accepted.
SPECIAL EVENTS: There were no Special Events discussed, however there was mention of upcoming activities that could develop into this category.
DISASTER REPORT: There were reportedly two house fires locally in the last month. Neither event required the call out of ARCARS.
NET REPORT: Andrew reported that the ARCARS 2M net has been averaging 13 to 15 check-ins this last month.
CLUB STATION: Gene reported that the Repeater and the 220 MHz packet station are working well. There will be a need to address cooling the equipment when warmer weather comes.
NEWSLETTER: It was recommended that the pop up window be changed to reflect the new field day site (if it is adopted).
CLUB PROJECT: Gene stated that the hardware on the towers was showing some signs of corrosion. He recommended that we attend to it and change out the parts when warmer weather arrives.
The I-Link station is running locally. An instruction sheet was passed out by Chip (KC8SHP). He has set it up at his residence and is looking into installing the antenna on a taller tower. The I-Link can be found at 146.500 MHz.
OLD BUSINESS: Dennis reported that the ARRL letter to the editor was delayed. Since it seems almost impossible to purchase equipment insurance through them, it was decided that it be purchased through a local agency soon.
MOTION TO PURCHASE INSURANCE by Gene, seconded by Kip (KB8WWH), approved.
Andrew (KC8SPD) informed us that he still plans to secure a combination padlock for the cabinet radio in the Command Center.
The ARRL Annual Report has not been completed yet.
NEW BUSINESS: Dennis (KB8OCG) has secured a new location for our annual Field Day exercise. The St Clair County Park has become available to us at no cost to the organization. There are restroom facilities there, and the site is centrally located in the county for visitors to attend. It has been negotiated to be available to us on an annual basis.
MOTION TO VOTE ON THE SITE MOVE AT THE NEXT MEETING by Gene
Gene held a presentation at the Marine City High School that yielded at least three individuals that are interested in an Amateur Radio Class. After a discussion in the meeting it appears that we may have enough students to entertain the idea of hosting another Introductory Level Class. It was strongly recommended that it offer Morse Code training also for the members that need that element to advance their licenses. An idea of promoting the class to the Boy Scouts, schools, and other groups prior to beginning classes was brought up. It was mentioned that a date may be set at the March meeting for classes.
DX SPOTS/ SPECIAL EVENTS Mike (KA8UXQ) reported that a station at the South Pole has been operating on 20M around 14.253 MHz and can be heard locally.
MOTION TO ADJOURN by Mike (KA8UXQ) seconded by Kip.
