December 1998 Club Meeting
The December meeting was called to order with 11 members present.
Correction to the November Minutes: On the hard copy of the newsletter (not the web site) there was a mistake on the frequency of the CVECO service. The correct frequency to monitor is 159.120mhz. This is one of the best frequencies to monitor to protect your family from local area hazardous industrial emissions or toxic spills or threatening weather. There is only one test in the morning, and then the frequency will remain quiet unless a threat is present. This is a must frequency for every scanner in Southeastern Michigan or Southwestern Ontario!
Motion: to accept the minutes from the November meeting with the above correction by Suzanne (KB8GFY), seconded by Brock (KB8WWG), and accepted.
Treasures Report: the old balance was $1,117.96
- 66.40 for crystals for the club project
New Balance $1,052.56
Motion: to accept the Treasures Report by Gene (NA8I), seconded by Brock, and accepted.
Net: Paul (KG8OU) reported that we could use more check-ins on the Tuesday nets. He went on to emphasize that we need more usage on the repeater in general, ant that will promote more interest in membership.
Club Project: We have the crystals and Paul explained that we were going to experiment with the first couple of radios before we perform the modifications on the rest of the club’s units for the 440mhz project.
Club Station: A wood template for the tower base will be provided to the architect for the cement foundation. We estimate that the base tower section weighs over 300lbs. A wooden template was provided earlier but was accidentally discarded in the fall clean up.
A second section may be available that would raise the tower height to 40 feet.
Mark (N8EGJ) provided longer cables for the packet computer and is to submit a receipt for their purchase. Older computer equipment was examined and sorted for the station.
New Business: Suzanne suggested that the club send invitations to the local amateur community to attend our meetings. Paul is to help with the addresses and mailing labels while Dennis (KB8OCG) is to draft the letter. The initial approach is to sort the mailings by local zip codes and send them out at a manageable monthly level.
Motion to adjourn by Gene, seconded by Brock, accepted.
50/50 winner: Suzanne. Congratulations!
