Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order with 13 members and guests present.

MOTION: to accept the July 2006 minutes by Edgar (KC8VLV), seconded by Suzanne (KB8GFY), accepted.

TREASURES REPORT: Suzanne reported that our balance stands at $471.95.

MOTION: To accept Treasures Report by Judy (KA8APM) seconded by Mike (N8MIC), accepted.

DISASTER REPORT: There was a chemical gas leak in Chemical Valley in Sarnia. There were several workers injured. The leak was contained and the employees were treated.

NET REPORT: Edgar (KC8VLV) reported that net attendance has averaged with 5 to 6 check-ins per week. Some of the nets have been over 30 minutes in duration. With the improvements on the repeater we have had check-ins as far away as Romeo MI. Please make note to participate Tuesday evenings at 8pm, on 146.800MHz.

SPECIAL EVENTS: The Light House / Light Ship event was held recently with about 100 contacts logged. The atmospheric conditions were not favorable but the event was enjoyable. There is another International Lightship event planned later in August.

August 22nd Operation Vigilant Guardian is scheduled. This is a multi county mock disaster event that is based on a health pandemic theme. Amateur radio operators are to be utilized during this exercise and should a real related event occur.

The upcoming Bike-a-thon is scheduled for Sunday, October 1st. Assistance of amateur radio operators for the event. This is a 100 mile race that is held in both Michigan and Ontario. There are check points that need to be manned as well as rolling stations that monitor the progress and assist participants. Contact Paul (KG8OU) if you are able to help with this event.

CLUB STATION: The 2 meter radio is not in working condition.

NEWSLETTER: Mark (N8EGJ) added a RSS feed to the qsl web site. Our newsletter and web pages remain available. www.qsl.net & www.arcars.us are posted to the Internet. We have a wealth of information available on the websites.

CLUB PROJECT: The coax for one of the antennas needs to be replaced.

OLD BUSINESS: Edgar presented a prize to the club that will be displayed in the radio room. The original intention was to present it to the amateur that made the most contacts at field day. The logs were not available to make that determination so the New York Fire Department Communications Unit patch displayed in a frame will be shared by the entire group. Edgar said that he intends to repeat a contest at the next field day exercise.

MOTION: for this year’s prize to be presented to ARCARS by Jerry (KC8YRQ), seconded by Dennis (KB8OCG), accepted

NEW BUSINESS: There is a background check requested by the American Red Cross. This check is being conducted by a private company and requires the applicant’s social security numbers to process.

DX SPOTS/ SPECIAL EVENTS: Tom (W8TRC) reported that he worked the newest DXCC country of Montenegro on 20 meters. The call was YL3T. Tom also reported that short wave broadcasts from Cairo Egypt on 40 meters around 9:30 pm EST. Also radio Israel has been heard on short wave with English transmissions.

MOTION TO ADJOURN: by Suzanne, and Edgar
