April, 1999 ARCARS Meeting
The meeting was called to order with 8 members present.
Motion to accept the March minutes by Glen (WD8DUV), seconded by
Victor (WD8DWR), accepted.
TREASURES REPORT: Suzanne was absent for the meeting. Our previous
balance was $1,114.19.
OLD BUSINESS:
Mock Disaster: The results of the Mock Disaster have been reduced to a written report and have been posted to our links page.... The Mock uncovered some needs that must be addressed in the radio room as preparation for the real thing.
QSL.NET: Mark donated his own funds for the space at the QSL.NET mirror site. Our friends at QSL.NET have indicated that we can have all the room we need for our cause on that web service.
Motion to reimburse Mark for his donation by Glen, seconded by Victor, and accepted.
Cork Board: The cork board that is to be used to post the status of emergency efforts and other important information in the radio room has not been purchased yet. Mark (N8EGJ) indicated that he would make that purchase soon.
NEW BUSINESS:
Computer Donation: A 486 computer that is Internet ready was donated by Brock (KB8WWG). Mark is going see that it is ready to put into service.
Boy Scouts on the air Jamboree: This annual event will be held this fall. A discussion indicated that this will be a great time to assist the boy scouts and possibly hold a special event. We will look into obtaining ARRL literature to hand out to interested scouts, and even entertain holding an amateur class afterward if there is enough interest generated. Dennis (KB8OCG) is to get additional details from the Boy Scouts of America.
Motion to participate at the Jamboree as a Club activity by Gene (NA8I), seconded by Ed, and accepted.
CLUB COMPUTERS: The computers are working well and soon we will be installing the 486.
OLD COMPUTERS: We will clearing out some additional computers and equipment that is not being used. Edgar suggested that we also clear out the file cabinets.
NET: Paul (KG8OU) indicated that we have been averaging about 10 check-ins weekly. We have been getting good support from our Canadian amateur friends on the nets.
KI8CL will be acting as Net Manager for the Summer months.
Please remember to check into the weekly ARCARS Net at 8pm
Tuesdays.
Also try to support other nets in the area.
Projects: The 440mhz radios still need technicians to work on
them to prepare them for club use. We will be looking into obtaining the
necessary test equipment to get them ready for service.
FIELD DAY: We will be supporting Field Day as a club event the
weekend of the 26th and 27th of June. Gene will
be making contacts to secure the site, and we are anticipating our site
cleanup/preparation to be held the weekends of June 12th and
again the 19th if necessary.
An initial list of participants was passed and as of the meeting we have 6 members that plan to attend. We expect others to join in as time passes.
With some of our key members planning to be away that weekend some problems erecting towers was brought up. At any rate, we are planning to have wire antennas that will be easy to erect and not require heavy equipment. If enough interest is expressed in VHF operations we will have enough towers to cover our needs.
Stations: At present, we are planning to have one HF/CW (NA8I) station and one HF/SSB (KI8CL) station. As previously indicated, with enough interest, we can add 2 Meter SSB & CW and 6 Meter SSB & CW stations as well. Please Click Here ! to sign up or Send Email to KB8OCG to get on our activity list.
Other needs (such as shelters and equipment) will be discussed at the May meeting.
CLUB STATION:
The 146.800 (NA8I /ARCARS) and the packet station (KC8CXJ) are working
well.
Motion to adjourn: by Edgar, seconded by Glen, and accepted.
