Algoma Amateur Radio Club

Dave Allison Memorial Fund

This fund was set up by Dave Allison's son for the "Algoma Amateur Radio Club" to recognize an amateur for his or her past and present contributions to amateur radio. Dave Allison enjoyed his membership and seldom missed a meeting. Dave was very interested in teaching amateur radio and getting new amateurs into the hobby.

When we say "Amateur of the year" it is not just for activities during the year the award is presented. This award is the recognition of outstanding service by a club member. For this reason, a wide range of activities are used as criteria to determine a worthy recipient. "Amateur of the year" is the person being recognized in that particular year.

The following guide lines and criteria are used for this selection process.

  1. A three member committee should be formed each year to select the individual who will obtain the award. Usually the last three recipients of this award form this committee.
  2. The membership of the A.A.R.C. can make recommendations to the committee as to who should receive the award. These recommendations should be made after careful consideration of some of the criteria mentioned below. Recommendations to the committee should be submitted by April 1st.
  3. The award will be given out at the May meeting.
  4. The award will be presented to the "Amateur of the Year" - the individual who has contributed the most to amateur radio in general and especially to the "Algoma Amateur Radio Club".
  5. The award will consist of an appropriately engraved plaque with the recipient's name on it. This plaque will be given out each year. There will also be a monetary award, the amount of which will be determined by the interest earned during that particular year.
  6. NOTES:
    - the principal of the fund must not be touched
    - no one amateur can win the award two years consecutively
