Solar Flare

A large solar flare was reported Wednesday and forecasters warned of potential electrical and communications disruptions.

The flare was reported by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Space Environment Center in Boulder, Colorado. Significant solar eruptions are possible in the coming days and there could be disruptions in spacecraft operations, electric power systems, high frequency communications and low-frequency navigation systems, the agency said. "This flare, the fourth largest in the last 15 years, erupted just as the ... sunspot cluster was rotating onto the visible disk of the sun," said Larry Combs, solar forecaster at the center. The flare has affected some high-frequency communications on the sunlit side of Earth, NOAA reported.

Rules for Disaster Work
Carl Russell
1st.
Never self deploy. We need to work for somebody and they need to know where we are.
2nd.
Be ready to be 100% self contained. There may be no water, food, shelter or power where you are going.
3rd.
Seek every opportunity for further training both in technology and in disaster response.
4th.
Be available when the need is acute. Victims canít wait for us to find an opportune time.
5th.
Build relationships with other agencies and people, i.e., Red Cross, Salvation Army, FEMA, etc.
