1) Changes from previous list: Amended entry for Habitrek New Mexico Bike Tour, September 30 - October 2, 2005, reflecting revised plans for the event.
2) I will take signups for any of the events listed if anyone is interested. I am beginning to focus particularly on the early August events - the MS 150 bike tour August 6-7 and the La Luz Trail run August 7. If you have already contacted me about any of these events, you are on the list and need not sign up again.
MS150 Atomic Tour - August 6-7, 2005. This 150-mile, two-day bike tour - a fund raiser for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society - has had its originally announced dates changed and has a new route this year: Bernalillo to Los Alamos for an overnight, then return to Bernalillo. It is an out-and-back course on NM 550 (formerly NM 44) and NM 4 through the Jemez Mountains and past the Valle Grande. We will need people with mobile 2 meter gear to cover the road and rest stops on one or the other or both days. With the new route, this is an opportunity for hams in the Santa Fe/Los Alamos area to get involved but, as always, everyone is welcome to help out.
La Luz Trail Run - August 7, 2005. A perennial favorite event for very hardy runners and for hams who like to hike with their HTs to positions along the trail and watch those runners struggle by. Easy positions at the bottom and top also.
Habitrek New Mexico Bike Tour - September 30 to October 2, 2005. The first attempt at a bicycle tour fundraiser to aid Habitat for Humanity of New Mexico. A three-day ride is planned, following a loop route from Sandia Park/Cedar Crest through Tijeras, Mountainair, Belen, Albuquerque, and back to the starting point. Approximately 50 - 60 miles per day with overnights in Mountainair and Rio Communities. Approximately 100 riders anticipated. There will be three or four rest stops on each day's segment of the route. If we cannot cover this entire event, the organizers are particularly interested in communications support for the first two days of mountain and desert riding, where cell phone coverage is the poorest.
Crop Walk - October 16, 2005. This is a walk along the streets of Albuquerque to raise money to feed the hungry. We have supported it for quite a few years. The operation is very low-key, simply cruising the course or operating from a fixed point along the course to be sure no one tires out, twists an ankle, or gets lost and that the rest stops don't run out of refreshments.
Duke City Marathon - October 23, 2005. We will be looking for the usual 30-40 ham volunteers to cover mileposts, support vehicles, medical, and race officials. More information later.
