What can you learn from amateur radio; is it just radio electronics and propagation or is there something more?

That is good but that that should be the means to the end and not the end in itself. The real purpose of amateur radio is communication.

All the technology in the world of today and tomorrow is of no value if we cannot communicate with each other. It's sad that with all the communications technology of cell phones, e-mail, radios, etc. one human being still can't communicate with another. Miscommunication, hurt feelings, arguments and misunderstandings still abound. It's just too bad that along with technology we can't seem to learn humility and forgiveness.

We are good at talking but not listening. Sometimes we are more interested in being heard than in hearing. Understanding is never gained in talking but in the listening.

"We build too many walls and not enough bridges." Isaac Newton (1643-1727); English mathematician.
