From the President

[Gavel]

Mike Pendley,
K5ATM

When you read this, the 3rd Region II ARDF Championships will be over and Freeman will once again be running the meeting. I will be shuttling people from UNM to the airport and train station.

I am writing this on Thursday - the day after the two-meter competition. I don't yet know how the 80-meter event turned out but I am very pleased to report that Wednesday's event ran very smoothly! The 2-meter event success story would not have been possible without the hard work from a long list of volunteers.

Tom Lea (W5LEA) and his group of volunteers had all 5 transmitters on the air and in sync two hours before the competition started. All transmitters operated as expected and stayed in sync the entire competition. Tom and his volunteers also managed the overall site communication infrastructure.

Scott Stevenson (KC5VVB) and his start crew ran like a well-engineered machine. All competitors were processed and launched onto the field with no glitches. Scott also organized a city sponsored shuttle bus service to various Albuquerque tourist sites.

Jack Stump (KD5OEO) and his finish line volunteers captured all results without so much as a burp and provided real time results to the competitors. Jack also "muled" the water cache out to the transmitter locations the day before the event.

I don't want to steal too much thunder from the official presentation so I will end with the (I hope) complete list of volunteers. I don't know if Freeman has a presentation set for September. If he does not, Jerry and I will present the whole story and tell you about the search and rescue mission that almost got started!!!
