July 2005 Newsletter
Internet Edition
From the Secretary
Carl Russell, KE5AKI
I got bit by a bug Saturday during Field Day and I hope it is contagious. This was my first Field Day and I'm hooked. I didn't take any radio equipment but I had the intense pleasure of helping others set up and operating on their rigs. I learned a lot and had a lot of fun. But the real joy was the fellowship; getting to meet so many other Hams and working with them. We had a little bit of everything.
Going on; CW, QRP, Satellite and HF SSB. What I'm doing now is dreaming about what Field Day could be next year. If everybody pitched in on the planning and participation what a Field Day we could have. Field Day can be a time not just to set up and operate for 24 hours but an opportunity to Elmer less experienced Hams in how to build and hang antennas, how to operate in contest mode and best radio practices. It could also be the perfect opportunity to demonstrate the exciting fun and challenge of Ham radio to the public.
Every member of AARC should plan now to participate in a very meaningful way in Field Day next year. You don't have to bring a lot of equipment just bring yourselves and get involved.
Thanks Freeman for putting this together, it was awesome.
