ARDF:
What bad timing! This is the last AARC meeting before the Third IARU Region II Amateur Radio Direction Finding Championships - sponsored by the AARC August 1 (Monday) through August 6 (Saturday) - and Jerry Boyd and I are both out of town. Jerry is with family and I am in the mountains with a gaggle of Boy Scouts.

Plans are coming together nicely. Participation has met initial projections. We currently have 25 participants from 5 countries - The US (19 total from 8 states), Bulgaria (1), Czech Republic (2), Kazakhstan (2), Australia (1), and two more pending from the US. Use permits have been obtained for venues and the city has agreed to help us transport our visitors to various sights around town on Thursday August 4 - a free day designed into the calendar to allow for sight seeing. Jerry is nearing completion on the orienteering map needed for the event and work on the new Direct Digital Synthesis radios that will be used for the foxes is going well. And to top it all off, I just learned that the ARRL has decided to award a grant to help sponsor the event!

Jerry passed a volunteer sheet around several meetings ago and we still have those names on file. We would like to make one last call for help today. Freeman will pass around a sign-up sheet. If you are at all interested in helping with the event please put down your name and contact information. We need help of all kind An artist willing to help us turn some initial art work into a first class T-shirt design

People willing to help transport participants to and from the airport (Sunday, Monday, and Saturday)

Volunteers willing to sigh see with the visitors People willing to help staff the field on Wednesday and Friday (start line, finish line, tabulating results, passing out food and water, etc.)

We will be contacting volunteers the first or second week of July.

Basic Electronics, KC5NZR, and Wisconsin:
Some of you may already know that Richie Allen (KC5NZR) is moving to Wisconsin in early July. We were very fortunate when Richie agreed to teach the Basic Electronics class we had originally planned to offer last month. We will be hard pressed to find a replacement with such an outstanding ability to teach. Please join me in wishing Richie well and in thanking him for all the contributions he has made to the AARC and the HAM community as a whole ... and stay tuned for more information on the class.
