MINUTES OF THE GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
OF THE
ALBUQUERQUE AMATEUR RADIO CLUB
7 May 2005
- Preliminary Items
- The meeting was called to order by president Pendley, K5ATM, at 0801.
- Visitors introduced themselves.
- Invocation by Don Grab, K5BIS
- President Pendley led the Pledge of Allegiance.
- Self-introductions were made by all present.
- Gene Shiparsky, KM5EL, is in the hospital with congestive heart failure. He is doing well at this time.
- ARRL report: SM Bill Weatherford, KM5FT
- Enrollment for the Level II Emergency Communications classes opens on Monday, 9 May. This is the last year for reimbursement for the ARRL emergency communication courses.
- The Texas legislature has passed a bill encouraging the use of BPL. Its passage was not warmly accepted by the area amateurs.
- There will be a SET for ARES participants on 14-15 May.
- Local Reports:
- N5VA - no report.
- ARDF Competetion
- Wind damage in the Los Alamos area has precluded that site from use.
- The use of the open-space site here is proceeding with help of the USFS.
- Work is proceeding on the amplifiers for the fox radios.
- Participants can be checked on the www.ardf.us website.
- Duke City Hamfest
- Will be held at the UNM Continuing Education Center at the corner of Indian School and University.
- The board of directors is calling for volunteers: Ticket sellers, Security, Parking, Other odd jobs
- The VuSat has been launched. It contains both SSB and CW transponders.
- Be on the lookout for a stolen VHF radio, IC-2720, taken from a pickup truck.
- New Business: none.
- The minutes from last month's meeting were passed.
- The Treasurer's report was passed
Note: The current treasurer has resigned and the remainder of the term will be completed by Glen Wonn, KK5UZ.
- The speaker this month was Pat Scharf representing PNM.
- The primary aim of PNM is environmental sustainability of its energy production.
- Concentrate on the minimization of input and loss of energy.
- Examining the storage of energy generated by wind.
- PNM is not planning to pursue BPL at this time.
- Attempt to minimize the absolute reduction of emissions rather than concentrating on emissions per kWh.
- Meeting Adjourned at 0910.
