According to the FCC, Amateur Radio has some very specific purposes. One is to increase the number of trained operators and technicians. Another is to provide emergency communications. Yet another is to foster international good will. Of course we know that another reason is to make new friends and communicate with them. But all the possible reasons have one common thread, interaction with others, relationships. Part of my work is disaster relief and I was in Florida right after Charlie hit. I was serving as the logistics officer for our Northern command center at Kissemmee. We were constantly faced with new problems and great needs. The one thing I learned is that to do anything we had to form good working relationships with everyone. The magnitude of what Florida went through was bigger than all of us put together. We needed each other and the people of Florida needed us to work together. One of the most important things we can do in the AARC is to build good relationships with each other and with our community.
