Mike Pendley,

The board of directors met at the club station, N5VA on March 7. We picked the station as a meeting place so the directors could better understand what the station has to offer and how we can make better use of the facility. While we did not develop any specific plans, I think the goal of better understanding what the station has to offer was met and we all have a better appreciation of what a great job Kermit is doing.
We also discussed the basic electronics class I mentioned in last month's column. While specific details still need to be worked out we all agree the class will teach basic DC electronic theory, radio receiver theory, and kit building skills. To help with the last two goals, a radio receiver kit will be built in class with the theory of each stage taught. We are looking at the Ten Tec 1054 short wave receiver kit because this kit is moderately priced and not too difficult a project for the first time kit builder. I am also pleased to announce that Richie Allen (KC5NZR) has agreed to teach the class. Those of you that have attended Richie's license classes know what a great teacher he is.
The next AARC Board of Directors meeting will be held on April 4 at the Upper Rio FM Society Hub (Gibson and San Mateo). As always the meetings are open to all interested AARC members.

Some people love them and some people hate them. What ever your feelings - know that two Internet Radio Linking Project (IRLP) nodes have been activated in Albuquerque. Node 3979 is operating on 442.475 100Hz and node 3676 is operating on 145.210 162.2Hz. I am not sure of all the details. The 2 meter node operates under the call KB5GAS (the Albuquerque Gas Balloon Association. The 70cm node is operating under the call N05DE (Mega Link). I expect more info will be presented at the next URFMSI meeting. See www.irlp.net for more info on what IRLP is.
